Giovanni BidoglioGiovanni Bidoglio is a recognized scientist for his work on sustainable development, the protection and enhancement of natural capital and their intersection with socio-economic issues. He has published research addressing how societal development in Europe and beyond will be affected by disruptions in water supply due to climate, land use, urbanization and demographic changes.

For several years at the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, he has guided the scientific activities of multidisciplinary groups providing support to the development and implementation of European Union Directives on water and marine resources and their interdependence with other sectoral policies (agriculture, energy, industry, trade, development cooperation), i.e., the WEFE Nexus. Earlier work included research on soil protection and greenhouse gas emissions from natural ecosystems, development of footprint and Life Cycle Analyses, and assessments of impacts of agri-environmental and rural development measures.
